Promotion Achieved
Rutherford's first eleven gained promotion to the Northern Alliance premier division with a championship performance throughout season 2009-10. Leading the league for most of the season, the lads 'dug in' for the final four games, claiming all 12 points to top the table with Percy Main Amateurs coming a close second.
The management duo of Daniel Hall and Paul Taylor deserve great credit for the way they have conducted themselves, especially in the face of many off-the-field distractions.
With top scorer Kevin Urwin and skipper Peter Stewart electing to move to premier division Heddon midway through the season many thought the task would prove too big but key signings of Paul Andison, Craig Horsfall and Kevin Hay proved decisive.
Now the team looks to playing in a standard last witnessed at the club 102 years ago in 1908. Hopefully we can push on from here and establish ourselves as a premier side.
